What gets tracked
I use a self-hosted Matomo instance to record anonymized site activity. It shows me how
many people view each page, how many sign up for the dispatch, and other aggregate
trends like which links see the most clicks. I do not collect names, emails, IP addresses,
or anything else that can single you out.
When you share your email
If you join the dispatch, I store the address you provide so I can send newsletters.
Alongside the address, I keep a note of your double opt-in confirmation, whether you have
unsubscribed, and a simple counter of failed deliveries so I can turn off addresses that
stop working. Everything is stored first-party by me on infrastructure I run, and I do not
plug the list into any outside services.
Why I track it
The numbers help me understand what resonates so I can improve the stories, tools, and
newsletters. If a chapter gets a lot of attention or a signup form suddenly drops off,
I can spot that and make adjustments. It is about keeping the project welcoming and
useful, not about profiling anyone.
Who sees the data
Only I can view the Matomo dashboard and the email list. Both live on servers I run,
are never shared with advertisers, and are not connected to outside tracking networks
or marketing tools. There are no third-party cookies or ad pixels hiding in the
background, and I do not sync the email addresses with any other platform.
Your choices
If you prefer not to be counted, you can block analytics scripts in your browser or use
any content blocker you already trust. Matomo respects the Do Not Track signal and stops
recording as soon as the script is blocked or DNT is enabled. Every dispatch email includes
an unsubscribe link, and you can contact me directly at any time to ask questions or have
your information removed—your comfort comes first.
